Halfway between LA and San Francisco, sits the tiny town of Pismo Beach. June 20th through the 22nd, the town of 8,000 people was invaded by roughly 175,000 car nuts. The Classic at Pismo Beach Car Show kicked off its 29th year by reminding everyone why it’s the premier car show in California.
Thursday night, before the show officially started, organizers held a gala night kickoff event. Food and drinks from local restaurants provided a great atmosphere for the fund raising event. Proceeds from [...more]
Police in Dubai have a new showpiece in their impressive fleet of fast squad cars: A Bugatti Veyron that cost a cool $1.6 million and takes only 2.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Its top speed is 267 mph. It joins other top cars in the "super fleet" that includes Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini models. The entire fleet is estimated to be worth $6.5 million.
These police vehicles aren't used to patrol or apprehend criminals. They are used for PR, as a way to connect wi [...more]
This week, June 2nd - 8th, is National Tire Safety Week. Every year the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) encourages motorists to check their tires and educate themselves about tire safety.
The importance of being "TireWise" is more critical than you might think. Over 10,000 tire-related crashes occur in the US every year and nearly 200 people die as a result. Aside from the "life and death" stakes, Americans add almost 3 billion (yes, billion) miles to their tires each y [...more]
Probably the most argument causing post on here, this list of the best video game racers is by no means all-inclusive. Just consider it a thoughtful guide, and post up your favorite below.
Gran Turismo 6
Over one-thousand cars, 80 tracks. That alone makes the greatest driving simulator on the Playstation 3 the winner of this list. The GT series was always known for variety, even packing American muscle and Euro hot hatches into road and rally course shenanigans. The music is great, the scenes wh [...more]
Auto auctions find a large audience on TV due to the excitement and sheer insanity of the prices. There is everything from the super rare exotic, or the very first of the production run, to the historic race car previously owned by a celebrity. While car auctions are not a good barometer of actual retail and resale prices, they are fun to watch, and to occasionally gawk at the prices. While cars in private sales go for truly bonkers prices, you would need seven figures to purchase any cars on th [...more]
Flying cars have been the dream of children for over a hundred years. Science fiction has been promising them in books, short stories and movies for at least that long. Today the skies are not filled with cars zooming overhead, but there are some taking to the skies.

Restoring a classic car can be an enjoyable hobby, a way to learn a valuable craft, or even a profitable way to make a living. However, it’s not all fun and auctions. The wrong project car can easily derail your motivation, and lead to an expensive time-waster. Here are some suggested classics, depending on what type of restoration you are looking at completing.

Sport
There are many arguments about what makes a great sports car tire. When it’s time to replace the tires on very powerful sports cars like the Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR1, owners buy the Nitto NT555R. This [...more]
As Americans, we like to lay claim to the biggest and best of everything. Biggest economy, most inefficient government, largest people, biggest ball of twine, and so on. But did you know that the biggest car show in the world takes place in Europe? We tend to think of the US as the world’s largest car buying market (it’s not, that’s China), and look at top car shows like Pebble Beach, SEMA, and Woodward for examples of big and thriving car culture in the States. However, this tends to make us no [...more]
It may seem obvious, but there is more than one way to change a hubcap. This is due to manufacturers taking a different approach to the problem of protecting their wheels. Originally, hubcaps were meant as a protective cover for the hub. This is where the spokes attach to the circle in the center of the wheel. The hubcap kept out the water and dirt, keeping the hub in good shape. Over the years some versions expanded to include the entire wheel, becoming known as wheel covers. Whatever you call [...more]

March has been a particular rough month for car scammers -- which is good news for their victims.
In Minnesota, a man was sentenced to more than six years in jail for fraud in connection with his car restoration business, Memory Lane Classics. Between 2007 and 2010 he reportedly swindled car owners out of $1 million dollars in undelivered restorations. In addition to jail time, he will be forced to pay back his victims.

The popular Barrett-Jackson automotive auctions are the flashy end result of the business of flipping cars. While buying used vehicles for a low price, fixing them, and selling for a profit has always been around, there is a renewed interest due to shows like Fast N Loud and Counting Cars.
Pre-Great Recession, car flipping was a decent way to make cash as a side business, or even a full time source of employment for a few adventurous souls. The trick was to find a vehicle that needed minimal wo [...more]
You spend a good amount of time in your vehicle driving, so it should reflect your style. While there are lots of modifications available, some of them, like truck nutz, can reduce the cool factor. Here are some simple and affordable ways to customize your vehicle, without making it look like a Made in China ride.
Window tint is the first modification most people make to their vehicles. It’s affordable, helps keep your vehicle cooler in summer, and honestly just looks neat. Window tint can cost [...more]
Tires are vastly improved compared to even just 20 or 30 years ago. Even so, they still wear out. Costing anywhere from $60 for cheap economy tires to well over $500 for a single high performance sport tire, they can be a very expensive maintenance item. Here is how you can make them last longer.
Air pressure is your tire’s friend. When tires are not properly inflated, all sorts of problems can happen. The low tire pressure causes the tire to deform as it is driven, causing excessive wear to th [...more]
When people discuss car movies, someone eventually brings up Grease. Yet, this 1978 trip down memory lane never really discusses the cars. Sure, they are vaguely in the songs, but they are not critical to the story like the Bandit’s 1977 Trans Am, or Memphis Raines’ GT500 Eleanor. With that said, Grease does offer the grease monkey a visual buffet of 1950s American iron.
The first car to appear in the movie is the Pink Ladies’ 1948 Studebaker Commander Regal. It looks to be in decent shape, but [...more]
When the temperature drops, you may notice a warning light near your vehicle’s gauges. If the warning light looks like a deflating tire surrounding an exclamation point, don’t freak out; it’s an easy fix.
This warning light happens because tires, of course, are filled with air. That air responds to the environment, and gets warmer or colder with the seasons. In late fall and winter, the air is colder, so it is also denser, which means less outward pressure in your tires than earlier in the year [...more]
While Barrett-Jackson auctions are often critiqued for catering to the collector instead of the enthusiast, you have to admit; they sure can sell some iron. The Scottsdale, Arizona auction running January 12th – 19th, 2014 was no exception. Here are a few of the highlights.
