There is a certain sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes from working on your on vehicle. The feeling that you get after having just installed a new set of tires or a catalytic converter single handedly is unmatched. After that point a person starts to look at their car in a new light it isn’t just some machine – it’s their pride and joy – and it needs to be handled with the utmost care. Every vehicle needs regular maintenance and the odd repair here and there, but you don't have to rely on a dealership or mechanic all the time. The truth is, any mechanic can work on a car, but if you want to make sure that your car gets the attention it deserves then sometimes you have to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. But, if you're planning on attempting some more complicated work like installing a new carburetor then it would be wise to consult a manual. In a perfect world, every car part would come with a thorough and simple manual, but in the real world you’re lucky to get one that is written in your own language, if you receive one at all. The easiest way to make sure that you have all of the documentation necessary to attempt any vehicle repair or maintenance job is to buy a single comprehensive vehicle manual such as a Haynes manual. On June 22, 2011, Haynes -- the leader in car maintenance and repair manuals -- announced that they will be selling online manuals. Since its founding in 1960, Haynes has earned a worldwide reputation for what some might call “excessively detailed” manuals. When Haynes creates a vehicle manual they start at the end and work their way back to the beginning. Starting with a fully constructed car, the Haynes team breaks it down piece by piece before finally reconstructing it. Documenting and sketching each step of the process, Haynes is able to create manuals so in-depth that sometimes the automakers themselves learn something new. Haynes makes sure that no bolt is left unturned during their extensive teardowns and if there is something you want to fix on your car, motorcycle, or ATV chances are that you can find it in a Haynes manual. Haynes' new online manuals represent a new step for the company that many mechanics and car enthusiast will no doubt appreciate. Haynes is approaching their new online manuals with the same energy and dedication that has lead to over 500 car teardowns. The great thing about their online manuals is that they include embedded audio and video content. So if you  need to know what a worn-out timing belt sounds like you can just playback a sample sound with one simple click, or watch a video to see exactly how to flush your transmission.  The audio and visual content in the Haynes manuals make them more "App" than book. Right now, the manuals can be viewed using any modern web browser, eliminating the frustration of having to track down that "old Pontiac GTO" manual hidden under about twelve stacks of old air filters and tools. The Haynes manuals will be available with a subscription plan in Fall 2011.
