First thing you’ll want to decide is if you want to keep it period correct so the wheels and tires look like they came from the 60s or 70s, or if you want to go Resto-Mod and give it a more modern look with updated performance to match your modifications.
Keeping it period correct means you want the wheels to match the car’s era - in other words it will look like it went into a time capsule or got parked in a barn the year it was made and you found it today, washed it and parked it in your driveway. So it will need to look just like the wheels and tires in it came from back in the day. During the 60’s and 70’s the wheel sizes were pretty small compared to today’s rims - so 14 and 15 diameter wheels and tires are what you’ll need. If you want to upsize but still keep it looking period correct, you can do that with 17s and 18s and keep the old school look you want. This way you can still have the look of the era but go with a bigger wheel and tire package allowing for a more modern tire to improve performance.
