America's love with fast cars is the stuff of legends. From songs to movies, from magazines to calendars, from posters to art shows, and in the digital age, from screen savers to youtube videos and fan pages, hot rods and muscle cars are truly icons of speed, sexiness, and beauty. And across the country, fans gather at their local road rally or cruise night to show off the best examples of the classic muscle cars. Those with a true appreciation of muscle cars may want to visit a muscle car museum to see not only cars, but related memorabilia celebrating and documenting the history of this unique class of vehicle. If so, they have several options available, as there are muscle car museums in several states. Floyd Garret's Muscle Car Museum is located in Sevierville, Tennessee and is open year round. This museum brings together 90 muscle cars -- all American made -- focusing on cars made in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They also boast a collection of 5,000 museum artifacts and a large gift shop. The museum opened in 1996 and has been featured in numerous magazines and TV shows. Rick Treworgy's Muscle Car City is a museum in Punta Gorda, Florida. It opened in 2009 and exhibits close to 200 classic cars. While the museum features the muscle cars of the mid 1960's through the early 1970's, it contains cars from every era -- dating back to the 1920's. The museum hosts a regular Cruise-In/Car Show as well as a weekly auto flea market. There is also a large memorabilia store and a "60's diner" cafe. Another option is the Muscle Car Ranch in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Part museum, part campground, it offers visitors a unique experience. The museum itself features everything from muscle cars and antique trucks to motorcycles, buses, and road signs. Car lovers can camp at the park and take advantage of 62 acres of recreational grounds and three fishing ponds. They have recently become an RV park, so that campers and trailers can park for a few days, weeks, or all summer. There are other classic and muscle car museums located throughout the United States. Those wanting to plan a vacation around one -- or more -- can easily do an internet search or check their favorite auto forums to see which destinations would make the perfect vacation.
